James Kay comes out the door first.
The former Kelowna engineering manager is the first non-incumbent to officially announce his candidacy for city council.
Kay announced on Wednesday morning that he would seek one of the eight councilor seats when voters elect a new municipal government in October.
In a campaign focused on “Putting the people of Kelowna first”, Kay says the city needs to focus on sustainability with a renewed focus on increasing revenue, cutting costs and ensuring that resources go to the most needed areas. including growth support infrastructure.
“We are struggling to ensure that Kelowna continues on the path of responsible growth,” says Kay.
“We need to make sure that we can provide the services, facilities and infrastructure that residents need, and prioritize investments that will make a positive difference for all Kelowna residents … while getting the best value for themselves. his money.”
Kay grew up and ran several small businesses before moving to City Hall, where he served as the city’s engineering manager from 2016 to 2021.
He believes his experience in civil engineering and infrastructure puts him in a good position to provide “knowledge leadership” when it comes to the city’s most pressing needs.
“Local authorities provide the most direct opportunity for people to make a difference.
“The more we participate, the better we will be able to meet the opportunities and challenges we face.”
