OTTAWA — Pat King, an organizer of the Freedom Convoy that paralyzed downtown Ottawa for three weeks last winter, has been released on bail.

The decision was handed down in an Ottawa courtroom Monday by Superior Court Judge Anne London-Weinstein.

The proceedings were covered by a publication ban.

King nodded as the judge, dressed in a plaid shirt and long hair in a braid, was presented.

In the courtroom, supporters wearing “Free Pat King” T-shirts held tissues to their eyes as the judge delivered his ruling.

London-Weinstein said King would have to leave Ottawa in 24 hours to return to Alberta, where he would have to live on bail.

King’s bail conditions include a ban on using social media and refraining from participating in convoy-related activities.

King is also prohibited from contacting other organizers of the convoy, including Chris Barber, Benjamin Dichter, Tamara Leach and Tom Marrazzo, except in the presence of an attorney.

He is also expected to observe a 10pm to 6am curfew

Last week, King returned to court after a hearing in April was abruptly halted when his lawyer’s computer appeared to have been hacked.

The day after the hearing in April, the Crown announced it was indicting King on three counts of perjury and obstruction of justice.

The latest charges were in addition to 10 charges related to King’s involvement in the Ottawa protest last winter.

Previous charges include mischief, intimidation, obstructing police and disobeying a court order.
