DALAS – After an unsuccessful break in a previous game, Johnny Godreau made no mistake in his penalty.
Gaudro’s penalty from the third period spurred Calgary Flames to a 4-1 victory over the Dallas Stars on Monday to level the playoffs with two wins each.
Elias Lindholm and Rasmus Anderson also scored, and Michael Becklund added a goal with an empty net for the Flames, generating three unanswered before Dallas countered in the third period.
Flames goalkeeper Jacob Markstrom made 34 saves to win another goal-scoring duel with Dallas teammate Jake Oettinger, who stopped 50 shots in the loss.
Tyler Sagin scored the only goal for the Stars.
The series of the best of the seven returns to Calgary for Match 5 on Wednesday at Saddledome, where the Flames performed 25-9-7 in the regular season.
Game 6 is Friday in Dallas, and Game 7, if necessary, will be Sunday in Calgary.
“It’s good to win this victory, but I think the momentum is that we will go home and play in front of our fans,” Godro said. “Now it’s a series of three games.”

Calgary (50-21-11) led the Pacific Division and ranked sixth in the NHL in the regular season. The stars number 15 (46-30-6) entered the postseason as the first wild card in the Western Conference.
The Flames won 1-0 and lost 2-0 to Sedledom before the Stars doubled Calgary 4-2 in Game 3 at the American Airlines Center.
When a series of the top seven tied 2-2, the winner of Game 5 held the record for all series of 219-58 (.791), according to NHL statisticians.
The Flames trailed by a goal late in Saturday’s 3 game, when a serious Gaudro could not lift the puck over Oettinger’s field by just over three minutes until the end of the game.
He was hooked on a break from Stars defender John Klingberg to receive a penalty on Monday.
With more time to plan their moves on Monday, the winger stretched Oettinger with a backhand and scored five holes at 7:47 of the third period.
“Ever since match 1, I felt I was playing well, playing hard against this team. There were no results, “Godreau said. “The last match was a break with two minutes left. He wanted it back. Another story tonight. I found the net. “

After nearly 16 minutes four on four in the second and third games of the series, in game 4 hockey is played with more even strength.
This favors Calgary, which ranks sixth in the NHL in equal goals.
The flames generated more sustained pressure in the Dallas attack zone.
“I think we had about 50 strikes and we had very long shifts in their area,” Anderson said. “We didn’t take a lot of penalties tonight either, so we can play five on five and that’s where we’re a really good team.”
Lindholm scored just the third draw for Flames in the series at 11:53 of the third period for Calgary’s 3-0 lead.
Gaudreau from the boards fed him on hash marks, where Lindholm defeated Oettinger with a low-wrist shot for his third in the series.
Dallas responded with a goal with a powerful game to reduce the deficit. The blow to Seguin’s wrist from the emergency hit Markström from the far side at 15:03.

Calgary overtook Dallas in each of the first three games, but managed to score only three goals and two of them equal.
The stubborn defense of the Stars at their edge continued to deny Calgary a second chance for several fights allowed by Oettinger, but the Flames continued to strike the Dallas defense until cracks appeared.
It took a five-on-three goal at 9:41 a.m. in the second period to break the Flames on Monday.
Anderson’s shot from just above the hashmarks beat Oettinger’s side after stars Jani Hakanpaa (tripping) and Radek Faxa (high-scoring) were penalized within 12 seconds.
Markström and Oettinger exchanged heroism throughout the game.
Dallas turned the puck deep into their zone at the end of the second period, but Oettinger deflected Godro’s attempt at close range.
“I told the coaches after the game that we just wasted a great goalkeeping performance,” said Stars head coach Rick Bownes.
“Their man made several big rescues. Otter was exceptional and was therefore 1-0 in the third. ”

Markström repulsed Stars striker Tyler Sagin, who drove to his doorstep four minutes after the end of the period. Calgary beat the hosts 19-8 in the first period without goals and kept the difference by 39-23 after two.
Oettinger turned down a golden chance for Tyler Tofoli of Calgary to rebound in the first period. Lying Oettinger improved Tofoli’s attempt to lift the puck over the scattered goalkeeper of the Stars at 9:14.
Godro missed several shifts at the beginning of the match. His head seemed to collide as he and Vladislav Namesnikov collided side by side in the star zone.
Godro went to the locker room, but returned to the ice in the middle of the first period.
“I’m fine,” he said.
Flames head coach Daryl Sutter replaced striker Brett Richie with defender Michael Stone to deploy 11 strikers and seven defenders on Monday.
Suther wanted reinforcements at the back. He felt that the defender’s extra minutes at the beginning of the series, when Andersson misbehaved in the first period, began to appear in the series.
“We wanted fresh feet there,” the coach said.
