Visitors to the Glastonbury festival “may need to take shelter if they can” with thunderstorms expected to sweep through much of southern England, the weather office warned.
The period of warm weather will end today with forecasts of thunder and lightning in the South of England, East of England, Midlands and East Wales. The meteorological service issued a yellow warning from 10 a.m. to midnight, with storms expected to break out this afternoon and early evening.
Meteorologists predict gusts of wind, torrential rain and hail, and in some places there will be up to 60 mm of rain in a few hours, creating a small chance of flooding.
Visitors to the festival were warned to pack for possible events with a forecast of rain over the weekend, along with today’s yellow warning from the Meteorological Service for thunderstorms
