GO buses do not stop or leave Union Station due to a strike by railway workers

Metrolinx says GO buses are not stopping or leaving Union Station on Sunday as striking workers at railway terminals blocked access to the area.

“Protesters (Toronto Terminals Railway) have again arrived at Union Station and blocked the entry or exit of our GO buses. They did that yesterday, “Metrolinx spokeswoman Anne Marie Aikins told CP24.

As a result, buses are diverted to other transit stations.

For example, buses 16, 18, 21 and 31 will start and end at Port Credit GO station on the Lakeshore West line, and passengers can transfer trains there to access Union Station.

A complete list of bus changes can be found here.

“We appreciate that this alternative plan is not as convenient for our customers, but we are doing everything we can to get them to their destination safely and effectively, and we appreciate their patience and understanding,” Aikins said.

About 95 employees at Toronto’s rail terminals left work earlier this week after voting to reject a preliminary agreement in September 2021.

They say wage demands are at the root of the disagreement.

The strikers, represented by the International Brotherhood of Electrical Engineers, said on Twitter on Sunday that they “would like to return to the negotiating table” instead of striking, and accused Metrolinx of hiring replacement workers or “stealing” at Union Station.
