Google is urging billions of Chrome users to update their web browser NOW

If you happen to use Chrome to surf the web, reply to emails and watch TV, then it’s a good idea to check that your software is up to date. Google has just announced the release of an important update that fixes a total of 30 vulnerabilities in the popular browser.

Some are so serious that they have received a serious rating from the American technology company, which means that hackers may be on the verge of taking full advantage of the mistakes.

“This update includes 30 security fixes,” Google said in a blog post on its Chrome security page. “Chrome 101.0.4951.41 for Windows, Mac, and Linux contains a number of fixes and enhancements.”

One good thing about this latest patch is that it looks like Google released it before cyber thieves could attack a user. None of the bugs mentioned in this version have received a catastrophic “zero day” rating, which means that users can sigh slightly with relief.

When a version includes the phrase “zero day”, it means that hackers already know about the error and how to take full advantage of it.

Although Chrome issues aren’t yet targeted by hackers, that doesn’t mean they won’t be used in the future, so it’s a good idea to make sure things are fully up-to-date to keep you safe from any cyberattacks.

So how do I update to the latest version of Chrome?

First, it’s a good idea to check which version of Chrome you’re using. This can be easily found by clicking Chrome in the menu bar and selecting All About Chrome.

The latest version for desktops is called 101.0.4951.41.

If you have installed it, then you are safe. If not, then you need to change things as soon as possible. If you don’t have automatic updates enabled on your computer, then updating Chrome is very easy.

Open Chrome on your computer and return to the All About Chrome menu. If you use older software, Google will warn you to press the update button. The only thing to keep in mind is that the browser will need to be restarted, so make sure you are not in the middle of something important.

This latest release from Google comes after a number of other important updates were pushed out by the technology giant.

Earlier this month, Chrome users were asked to download version 100.0.4896.127, which corrected a number of bugs, including the one that was given the dreaded “zero day” rating.

Speaking about the updates, Mountain View said: “We would also like to thank all the security researchers who worked with us during the development cycle to prevent security bugs from reaching the stable channel.
