GTA gas prices could jump to another record high this weekend

The average price of gas in the Toronto area and most of southern Ontario will reach a new record this weekend.

According to Dan McTeague, president of Canadians for Affordable Energy, the price of gas is expected to increase by two cents on Friday, to 212.9 cents per liter.

On Saturday, three more cents will be added to the price of a liter of gasoline, which will put it at 215.9 cents.

It will break the current record of 214.9 cents per liter, which was achieved only last weekend.

McTeague told CP24 earlier that pump prices could reach 225 cents a liter at some point this summer.

With the travel season approaching, many fear that demand this summer will place additional constraints on the already limited global supply, which has been exacerbated by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

The pain from the pumps is also felt south of the border and beyond the lake. In the United States, the average price of gasoline is nearly $ 5 per gallon, while in the United Kingdom gas prices reach a record 182.3 pence per liter.
