Hamilton police urge caution on footpaths after woman assaulted in ‘unprovoked’ incident

Hamilton police are urging the public to be careful on trails and paths after a woman was dragged off the trail while she was walking Wednesday morning.

Hamilton police said the incident happened around 9:30 a.m. on a trail in the area of ​​Upper Paradise and Donici Drive.

According to police, a woman was walking on the trail when an unknown man approached her and pulled her off the trail.

He then continued to assault her but was interrupted by witnesses who were walking in the area, police said.

He fled on foot south to Upper Paradise.

The suspect is described as a black male between the ages of 18 and 24, approximately 6 feet tall and weighing approximately 175 pounds. He has a slim athletic build with black curly hair. He was wearing a navy blue t-shirt, black or navy blue baggy jogging pants and carrying a crossbody bag.

Police described the attack as “unprovoked” and said they were urging the public to be careful on footpaths in light of the incident.

They advised running with a partner whenever possible, telling someone the route you’re running and how long you’ll be gone, avoiding unlit trails when it’s dark and carrying a cell phone or personal alarm.

Police are asking anyone with information about the incident to contact investigators.
