They arrested a thief with a hammer

A man swung a hammer at police officers and bystanders before he was arrested this week at a Penticton grocery store.
On July 18, 2022 at 5:15 p.m., first line officers responded to a report of a man causing a disturbance at Safeway on Main Street
Police say the man, 32, of no fixed address, became upset when animal control seized his dog while store security was processing him for allegedly shoplifting.
The man pulled out a hammer and started running around the parking lot threatening assault and property damage.
Officers arrived and with the assistance of the public were able to safely arrest the man.
Charges of disorderly conduct, theft, uttering threats and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose will be referred to the BC Prosecutor’s Office.
