FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Police in Fort Lauderdale shut down a portion of US 1 Thursday afternoon while serving a search warrant at a motel, officials confirmed to Local 10 News.
Sky 10 was above the scene just before 3 p.m., where traffic in the area of Southeast 17th and 20th streets was stopped.
Officers in an armored vehicle were seen outside the Relax Inn at 1851 S. Federal Highway.
SWAT officers were later seen entering the motel.
Police reopened the highway around 3:10 p.m., but remained on the scene detaining at least three people.
FLPD later confirmed officers were serving a drug warrant.
One man tried to escape from handcuffed police, throwing himself across the freeway before spilling over.

Patrons and a manager responded to the attack Thursday afternoon.
“I take it from them cleaning the house. Which is good,” said the manager, who did not identify himself. “We can’t tell you what they took, nothing. It’s none of my business what they took.”

A patron, identified only as “Brittney,” said she didn’t know why the police were there, but added “they’re snitches.”
“(You) talk too much, Britney,” one woman told her.
