Environment Canada has issued heat warnings for Calgary and much of southern Alberta, with temperatures expected to reach 35 C in some areas on Monday.
Daytime temperatures in Calgary are expected to range from 29 C to 34 C. The heat should ease on Monday night and Tuesday before rising again on Wednesday, the agency said on its warnings page.
A few areas to the south, including Lethbridge and Medicine Hat, are expected to see temperatures range from 32 to 35C.
People are advised to take precautions to protect themselves from the heat. Precautions include doing outdoor activities later in the day, taking frequent breaks, drinking plenty of water, and never leaving people or pets in a closed vehicle.
“Watch for symptoms of heat stroke or heat exhaustion, such as high body temperature, lack of sweating, confusion, fainting and unconsciousness,” Environment Canada said.
As of 10:30 a.m. Monday, the heat advisory covered these areas:
- Calgary.
- Okotoks, High River, Claresholm.
- Brooks, Strathmore, Vulcan.
- Medicine Hat, Bow Island, Suffield.
- Lethbridge, Taber, Milk River.
- Cypress Hills Provincial Park, first place.
