Heavy thunderstorm warning ends for parts of southern Manitoba

The warning of a severe thunderstorm ended after Environment Canada announced that a storm capable of causing strong gusts of wind, heavy rain and hail the size of nickel was passing through southern Manitoba.

Earlier on Saturday, the meteorological agency warned that a storm was moving east through the southern part of the province and could cause gusts of up to 90 kilometers per hour.

The warning initially covered the Brandon, Killarney, Steinbach, Winkler and Mordon districts.

During the night, Winnipeg also experienced a strong thunderstorm, which cut off power in some areas for part of the morning.

In the St. John neighborhood, more than 2,000 customers were in the dark until about 10 a.m. after lightning cut off power earlier in the morning.
