Biden was motivated to run for office in large part because he believed he was in the best position to defeat Donald Trump. He still considers kicking Trump out of the White House as one of his major contributions to America’s well-being. And with Trump emerging as the presumptive Republican nominee — he is now eyeing a September announcement — Biden says he is still in the best position to beat him.
Biden may seek re-election anyway, people in his inner circle say, but if Trump runs, Biden is much more likely to do so. And if Trump hangs on, it will be much easier for other Democrats to turn to Biden to allow someone else to take on a younger Republican candidate.
