How windy was Friday? Really windy!

Strong southerly winds in much of the Pembina and Red Rivers valleys led to some remarkable peak gusts on Friday.

“As the lowlands in Colorado dragged north all day, we saw that very windy conditions developed after it,” said CMOS-accredited meteorologist Chris Sumner. “Manitoba Hydro had a very busy day in some parts of the country, dealing with wind breaks, and I’m sure some homeowners will do a little cleaning today after various things were scattered around the yard.”

The highest reading was from Dugald, which recorded a peak wind gust of 99 km / h.

“Windy conditions will continue on Saturday, but not to the same extent as Friday,” Sumner said. “Today will be the range of western or southwestern gusts between 50 and 60 km / h.”

Meanwhile, temperatures are expected to be below average over the weekend until next week, with maximum temperatures between 13 and 17 until Monday, but Sumner said it will be much drier and sunnier as high pressure rises.

“We expect seasonal temperatures for Tuesday and Wednesday, but it looks like new cooling is likely to come over the weekend of May, with early signs of a system that is likely to bring more rainfall to the region on Thursday or Friday.

The peak gusts of wind on May 13 followed with the kind assistance of Environment Canada and the Manitoba Ag Weather Network. All readings are in km / h:
