Hull Street in shock after the tragic death of a man

Residents living on Hull Street say they are shocked by the tragic death of a man believed to have been attacked there.

Emergency services were called to Sherburn Street, outside Holderness Road, at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday this week, following reports of concerns about the man’s safety. Police arrived on the scene and found a badly injured man.

The victim was rushed to Hull Royal Hospital, but has now sadly died. Investigations have led police to believe the man was attacked, saying he was “hit”.

A man, who did not want to be named, said he saw emergency services on the street trying to help the man. He said: “I saw the consequences of the attack. There were two ambulances down the road and I could see them doing CPR to the man.

“It’s not something you see very often here. I have two dogs, so I think I’ll be safe.”

A mother of two, who also declined to be named, told Hull Live that there were some drug problems on the street and people struggling with mental health problems. She said: “We have seen investigators take bodies out of houses and all kinds. But I feel safe in my own home.

Another man said, “I feel good on this street. I have heard of several similar things that have happened here before. I don’t think the police could do much more on the matter, to be honest, because they’re pretty much down here. “

Since the man was attacked, Humberside police have increased their presence in the Sherburn Street area. The investigation into the attack is still ongoing and no arrests have been made so far.

Detective Inspector Nicole Elliott of Humberside Police said: “We believe this is an isolated incident and without greater risk to members of the public. The man’s family is supported by specially trained employees. Our thoughts remain with them in this difficult time.

“Those who live in the area will see an increased number of employees in the coming days, who make inquiries and provide confidence to residents and the local community. Please come and talk to these staff if you have any concerns.

Incidents of this nature are of concern to the local community, and I would urge anyone with information that would help with our inquiries to call our non-emergency number 101, citing Diary 435 of 14 June 2022.

“If you prefer to report information anonymously, you can do so by calling the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
