CHICAGO (WLS) – Gov. JB Pritzker is not running without resistance in the Illinois primary in 2022; he has a rival in the West Side, a nurse and activist Beverly Miles, who is also a military veteran. But Pritzker is still expected to win.
The governor and his wife MK voted on Tuesday morning at a polling station in the northern part of the city, not far from their home in the Gold Coast.

For months, instead of focusing on his only first opponent, Pritzker has been keeping an eye on Republican primary elections. He, along with the Association of Democratic Governors, has spent millions of dollars on advertising campaigns to boost the popularity of State Senator Darren Bailey.
The governor is betting that Bailey, a staunch conservative, will be a less formidable opponent in November than the more moderate Republican.

Pritzker is already portraying his joint election as a struggle against extreme ideology.
“If people show up and vote and make sure they vote for Democrats who support elections, voting rights, Democrats for civil rights, then we can finally secure the future of the people, and especially here in Illinois,” the governor said.
Earlier in the day, Pritzker greeted visitors at Manny’s Deli in South Loop, where he was joined by some other Democratic candidates from across the state.
The governor is holding a primary election night at the Marriott Marquis Hotel near McCormick Place. This was announced as the official start of his election campaign.
