Interruption: Todd Boelli’s message to Bruce Buck after Chelsea chairman resigns

Bruce Buck has resigned as chairman of Chelsea. The role of the 76-year-old will end on June 30, but he will still support the club as an advisor.

A statement from Chelsea’s official website said: “Chelsea Football Club announced today that Bruce Buck, who has held the post since 2003, will step down on 30 June. He will continue to support the club as a senior adviser.”

During Buck’s presidency, Chelsea’s men’s team won a total of 18 major awards – more than any other English club at the time. Chelsea FC Women also won 12 major trophies during that time.

Speaking about his time as chairman, Buck said: “I am proud to have helped Chelsea achieve great success on the pitch and to have a positive impact on the community.

“Now is the time to step down and let the new property build on the solid foundations we have. The owners have a fascinating vision for Chelsea’s future and I look forward to helping them achieve it in this new role, along with our amazing staff, players, coaches and supporters. “

New owner Todd Boelli also shared a thank-you note for Buck: “Bruce has taken Chelsea to the highest levels of international and domestic football, while developing one of the most active social responsibility projects in sport,” he said. “We thank Bruce for his service and dedication to the club.”

Buck will now continue to support and advise the club as a senior advisor.
