Ivana Trump, ex-wife of former President Donald J. Trump, died accidentally of blunt force trauma to her torso, according to the New York City medical examiner.
The office, which announced its determination in a news release on Friday afternoon, said it would not comment further on the death of Mrs Trump, 73.
Two law enforcement officials familiar with the matter said Thursday that police were investigating whether Mrs. Trump fell down the stairs at her Upper East Side home. One of the officers said there were no signs of forced entry into the home.
Mrs Trump and Mr Trump, who had three children together, married in 1977 and divorced 13 years later. During their marriage, they formed a quintessential 1980s power couple and ruled New York’s tabloid culture together. She is credited with the nickname “Donald”.
Mrs Trump attracted nearly as much media attention as her husband during their time together, helping to define an era of lavish excess that Mr Trump later used to position himself as a formidable television personality , before running for president in 2016.
As Mr. Trump built his real estate business, Mrs. Trump was his behind-the-scenes partner and among his closest confidants. She chose the pink marble and gleaming brass of Trump Tower on Fifth Avenue and advised him on his decision to go into the casino business in Atlantic City, New Jersey
She took particular pride in raising Donald Jr.’s children, Ivanka and Eric, writing in her book Raising Trump that “the credit for raising such great children belongs to me.”
Mrs Trump’s death prompted the office of New York Attorney General Letitia James to say on Friday it was postponing the former president’s testimony, scheduled for next week, as part of a civil investigation into whether he and his company fraudulently inflated the value of his assets . Similar interviews planned with Ivanka Trump and Donald Trump Jr. will also be postponed, a spokesman for Ms. James said.
