Jamal Adams is on the mend again, but the Seahawks’ star safety is doing his best not to miss a game in 2022.
Adams suffered a broken finger after getting caught in a helmet during a recent practice, NFL Network Insider’s Ian Rapoport reported Friday, according to a source. Rapoport added that Adams is still expected to train with the club and will wear a special cast for games.
If Adams has to undergo surgery, which Rapoport noted is likely, the plan is for Adams to wait until after the 2022 season to undergo the surgery.
The news continues an injury-riddled stint in Seattle for Adams, who has yet to complete a full season with the Seahawks. The former All-Pro underwent season-ending shoulder surgery after Week 13 of last season, limiting his availability to 12 games in back-to-back years.
When healthy, Adams is one of the most exciting running backs in the NFL. Known for his sure possessions and big-hitting threat up the middle, the 26-year-old also has a knack for rushing the quarterback, as evidenced by the 9.5 sacks he made during his debut season with the Seahawks in 2020.
Seattle traded two first-round picks to the Jets to acquire Adams before the 2020 season and gave the five-year veteran a four-year, $70 million extension through 2021 that made him the highest-paid safety in the league at the time of the deal .
