Janet Jackson’s performance at the Essence Festival of Culture at Caesars Superdome in New Orleans on Saturday was briefly hampered by technical issues, but she continued to perform.
The 56-year-old singer’s concert audio cut out during her exit, TMZ reported Sunday, but she was able to continue for more than an hour after the technical issue.
The Grammy-winning performer nearly sold out the venue, which had 48,500 tickets available for Saturday, according to NOLA.com.

Jackson, who was flanked by four male dancers on stage, opened her set with Feedback and performed classics including What Have You Done For Me Lately, Control, Nasty and That’s the Way Love Goes.
She also performed the tracks Funny How Time Flies (When You’re Having Fun), I Get Lonely and Together Again, which at past festivals she dedicated to her deceased relatives, brother Michael Jackson (in 2010) and father Joe Jackson (in 2018).
Jackson finished his sets with Escapade and Black Cat and returned for an encore of his hit Rhythm Nation.
In addition to the concerts, the festival included speeches by Vice President Kamala Harris and The Wire alumnus Wendell Pierce during the day at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center, according to the outlet.

A number of acts were hit by technical issues at the festival as people complained about the sound levels set for Chloe x Halle’s set, TMZ reported.
The Essence festival was also at the center of controversy, as some Hulu subscribers were upset that all the songs weren’t streamed live on the streaming service’s broadcast of the event, according to TMZ.
Nicki Minaj was the headliner on Friday, and her set was not broadcast on Hulu; host Angela Yee said that “circumstances beyond our control” prevented Minaj’s set from being streamed on Hulu.
