A House of Representatives commission investigating Monday’s January 6 attack on the Capitol abruptly scheduled a hearing Tuesday afternoon to hear what the group called “recent evidence” and to testify.
The hearing is scheduled for 1 p.m., according to a commission statement in which it did not provide other details about the surprise session.
The commission held a series of hearings this month, outlining the findings of its nearly year-long investigation, but no further meetings were planned this week.
The commission is planning at least two more hearings in July, according to its chairman, Representative Benny Thompson, a Mississippi Democrat. These hearings are expected to explain how a mob of violent extremists is attacking the Capitol and how President Donald J. Trump did nothing to end the violence for more than three hours.
Previous hearings have focused on pressure campaigns that Mr Trump has launched against the Justice Department, government officials and his own vice president as he tries to seize power.
