Jeremy Mackenzie faces 13 gun charges in connection with online video

PORT HOCKSBURY, NS –

A 36-year-old man from Nova Scotia, accused after protesting against masks in front of the home of the province’s chief medical officer, has faced 13 charges of firearms in an unrelated incident.

During a brief court hearing in Port Hawkesbury, NS, it was decided that Jeremy Mitchell Mackenzie would be charged with 12 counts of firearms in Pictou, NS, on June 6, and the remaining charges on June 27 in Port Hawkesbury.

RCMP officers searched Mackenzie’s home in Picto in January and allegedly found five restricted firearms, banned cartridges, bulletproof vests and ammunition.

Mounties began its investigation on Jan. 10 after a video was posted online showing a man brandishing a gun at Wycocom, NS

Mackenzie faces charges, including three counts of negligent use of firearms and three counts of unauthorized possession of a firearm.

The suspect, who uses the name “Angry Dissident” online, was also charged in March with a protest against masks in front of the home of Nova Scotia’s chief medical officer, Dr. Robert Strang.

Mackenzie and 31-year-old Morgan May Guptil have been charged with criminal harassment, intimidation of a health professional, mischief and harassing phone calls. Mackenzie is scheduled to appear in court in Dartmouth, NS, on Tuesday in this case.
