Former Tottenham striker Jermaine Defoe has said his old side still have an advantage over North London rivals Arsenal, despite losing points to Brentford.
Saturday turned out to be a good day for Arsenal, beating Manchester United all but putting an end to their top four hopes and later seeing Spurs drop out of Brentford.
However, Defoe, who spoke to Sky after a 0-0 draw with Brentford, believes the Spurs still have an advantage over Arsenal thanks to “winner” Antonio Conte.
Jermaine Defoe believes that the factor Antonio Conte will bring the Spurs above the line
Now the Spurs took only one point from the last six available and failed to score in their last two
He said: “I still feel that with this manager, with players like Harry Kane and Son, to get them back to their best, I still feel that Tottenham will finish in this four.
“Conte is an important factor. He is a winner, “he added.” His record speaks for itself. “
“Pochetino wanted to train younger players, like Conte, every young player who passes must be ready to play because he just wants to win. That’s why I’m so sure.
Jamie Redknapp, who served as an expert with Defoe, said it would be a great time for any club to qualify for the top four.
He said: “Why is this so big for both clubs, whoever gets fourth is just a completely different offer for players to come and play in the Champions League.”
“If this is Arsenal, this could be the next step they will take. It would be great for Mikel Arteta, because of his credibility, to beat Antonio Conte, “he added.
“It could be that way anyway, and that’s why it’s going to be so interesting. The North London derby will be one of the biggest in years.
Christian Eriksen has to decide on his future this summer – to stay or leave Brentford
Arsenal’s advantage in the pursuit of the four, when they beat Manchester United on a day when the Spurs lost more points and positions
Redknapp, meanwhile, also paid tribute to Christian Eriksen’s influence at Brentford, saying the Dane was “really fit” for the club.
“I feel really good. “From Brentford’s point of view, it was pointless to introduce him, he has nothing to lose,” he said.
“He just makes the game look so smooth. He looks better than ever and plays against top players. Every game he plays, he’s just at such a high level. He enjoys every second of it.
He added: “London is a huge attraction for him. He is very happy where he lives, has a young family. I would like to see him [stay at Brentford]. He is a fantastic footballer, a good boy. Everyone would want it in their squad.
