BOSTON – The Miami Heat may need to clear a spot on Championship Avenue.
This is the name of the road from their home court to the locker room, which is filled with memories the size of a wall of greatness from Miami’s past. Gary Peyton’s jumper, who began their return to the finals in 2006. Blood dripping down the face of Udonis Haslem in the fourth quarter of an important playoff game. The icy gaze of LeBron James in the iconic first quarter of his 45-point masterpiece to win Game 6 in Boston in 2012. And much more.
Heat President Pat Riley occasionally takes guests on long walks, stopping in front of huge images over the saturated red carpet to tell the story.
Maybe the photo from Friday night that comes out on the wall next is of Jimmy Butler rising in front of the Boston Celtics bench, playing his 46th minute of elimination game 6, which was immediately listed in history textbooks. Marcus Smart, Defender of the Year 2021-22, and Derrick White, the potential hero of the return, watched Butler rise into the air. Everyone in TD Garden stood up and looked at Butler.

He hadn’t been able to jump that high two days earlier. Four days earlier, forget about it. But that night, his aching right knee, which began to improve in the last two days after aggressive treatment and as much rest as possible, allowed it. Butler made the crushing 20-foot jump with 43 seconds left, confirming Heath’s 111-103 victory and forcing 7 on Sunday (20:30 ESPN).
“I don’t pay much attention to the audience. I want to win,” Butler said. “I want to play basketball the right way. I will do everything my team needs, my teammates need me.”

Jimmy Butler continues his masterful performance with this incredible bucket as the clock strikes.
After deteriorating his knee in Game 3 of this series – he struggled with an IT problem in the playoffs – Butler was a shell of his own. He played when he shouldn’t have, and it was obvious. His blast and lift were almost non-existent. By mid-game 5, the Celtics’ defense openly acknowledged what anyone watching could see, while Boston pulled away and turned his attention to the others: Butler was no threat.
But just minutes after Game 6, Butler jumped into the lane for the first of four thefts and beat everyone to the other end for a quick break. Moments later, he exploded from his feet to bounce off traffic. Another message came immediately: Butler was back — and so was Heat.
Butler carried Miami throughout the game, scoring 47 points with nine rebounds and eight assists. After reaching the foul line a total of six times while limping in games 3-5, he was there 11 times in game 6. And he did them all. He even made a record for the season four 3 points.

When he finished, he was tied for the third most points in a road elimination game in the NBA’s 75-year history. He scored or assisted with 68 points, the most in an elimination game in the conference finals in history, according to ESPN Stats & Information.
“Jimmy Butler is a great athlete, he really is,” said Heat coach Eric Spoelstra. “You can define him wrong in many different ways, but his racing will is as high as anyone who has played this game. He has put his fingerprints on this game.”
Spoelstra, already a veteran of dozens of high-stakes games (especially in Boston), has been stable and confident all week. Even when Heat was wheezing through losses in games 4 and 5, struggling to score 80 points.
On Friday morning, as Heat went through a light workout at a health club near their hotel – and saw after a quick estimate that Tyler Hero’s sixth man of the year would miss a third straight game – Speelstra was deep in his bag, knowing he would accept ” a great opportunity “when he and his team” feel most alive “.
There was light in Spoelstra’s eyes and confidence in his demeanor. He lives his life with incredible discipline, aided by Riley’s guidance, and trains that way. He wears the same clothes every day and never stops doing work, regardless of position.

Butler and the rest of the team showed this stability against the background of the turmoil. Kyle Lowry appeared on the court three and a half hours before the signal to try to loosen his diseased hamstring and then made his way to 18 points and 10 assists. After missing 19 consecutive 3 points in three games, Max Strus finally made a desperate rise in the third quarter and then made two more.
“I have not guaranteed anything. I just know how our boys are organized, “Spoelstra said hours later, after his team won a huge victory, his mood barely rising. “What you hope is that you will get the best out of you and a different level. In the course of a long series like this, you will be pressured, which is unpleasant. Sometimes you will lose along the way.”
The Heat could not afford another loss and it seemed so likely that they were heading for it. Even the waiting rival for the finals suggested on national television, as Draymond Green of the Golden State Warriors did on Thursday, that the Celtics would advance. They still can. Miami’s victory on Friday night did not win the series – just another chance.
“We’ve said it throughout the series, ‘It’s not over yet,'” Butler said. “We have game 7 in the crib.”
