Joel Embiid is in pain with his thumb, but expects to play in game 4

Philadelphia 76ers star Joel Embiid is experiencing significant pain and discomfort in his right thumb and may have an MRI in the near future to determine if there is any damage to the ligaments, ESPN sources Ramona Shelburn and Adrian Wojnarowski said.

Despite the discomfort, Embiid is training on Friday and expects to play in Game 4 of the Sixers’ playoff series against the Toronto Raptors on Saturday. Embid was seen wearing a wrap on his right thumb in training, but is determined to play the injury, sources said.

“He’s good,” coach Doc Rivers said after training. “We’ve done a lot of things … we just don’t want anyone to hit him on the hands and arms and all that. But he’s fine.”

Embid arrived for his press conference almost two hours after Match 3 ended on Wednesday after a long treatment session and wore a brace on his right arm with what looked like a band on his right thumb beneath it.

“I don’t know exactly what happened,” Embiid said after a 104-101 victory on Wednesday. “But I just started to feel pain and I think I may have distorted it. So we’ll see what happens [Thursday]”

Asked if the injury could affect his availability for Game 4, Embid said: “No. There’s no way.”

The Sixers are heading for Game 4 against Toronto with a 3-0 lead in the series.
