John McArievy said “hatred can hurt, but never win” after a video mocking the death of his bride Michaela was widely condemned.
Ms. McArievy, the daughter of former Tyrone GAA manager Mickey Hart, was killed 10 days after her honeymoon in Mauritius in 2011.
Late Thursday, a video appeared on social media showing people singing a song about Michaela’s murder.

On Friday night, Mr McArievy took to Twitter and said: “Michael was a court of love, courage and dignity.
“Hatred can hurt, but it can never win.”
The incident was condemned by politicians across the spectrum in Northern Ireland.
Two men issued a statement apologizing for their participation in the video.
John Bell and Andrew McDade said it was a matter of “great shame and regret” that they participated in the video.
The men said in a statement that they had participated in a live video on Facebook that was not specifically designed to broadcast the singing, but acknowledged that “the relevant chants should never have been sung in public or in private.”
Grand Orange Lodge said it was investigating the incident, and PSNI said it was looking at the video for evidence of whether crimes had been committed.
A Linfield FC volunteer coach has been fired for his role in the video.
