The Juno 2022 Awards kicked off in Toronto on Sunday with whirlwind performances by rockers Hamilton Arkels and Regina Tescher-born rocker.
The hit of Tesher Jalebi Baby even had a cameo from the host of Junos Simu Liu.
The Shang-Chi star and the Legend of the Ten Rings began with a much Canadian monologue celebrating his hometown of Toronto. The show returned in person, after a break during the pandemic, for the first time since 2019. For 2022 it was held outdoors on the Budweiser stage.

Simu Liu opens Juno Awards 2022: “I’m Canadian”
Host Simu Liu opened the Juno 2022 Awards with many Canadian monologues, paying tribute to his return home.
Haviah Mighty took first prize of the evening – Rap Album of the Year – becoming the first winner of this category.

“It’s for women in hip-hop,” the rapper said during his acceptance speech.
After their first performance, the Arkells won Group of the Year.
Sean Mendes, a native of Pickering, Ont., Was later honored with the International Achievement Award. He also won the TikTok Juno Fan Choice Award from Avril Lavigne.
Jesse of BC won the Breakthrough of the Year, and Charlotte Cardin of Montreal, who won three awards on Saturday night, took home the album of the year on Sunday.
The 51st Yunos also includes performances by Lavigne and Cardin. The evening included special presentations for both Mendes and Deborah Cox.
Cox accepted her honor by speaking out about the hardships of Canadian music industry leaders in the 1990s and as a black woman from Scarborough, a Toronto suburb.

“It was not easy to leave home, but it was necessary,” she said. “I’m not sure I would stay here tonight. These refusals became my diversion and only added fuel to my fire.

The Juno Awards 2023 will be held in Edmonton.
