Vice President Kamala Harris announced the launch of a “Working Group on Online Harassment and Abuse” on Thursday at the White House.
Harris praised the working group in its remarks as a tool for social progress, saying: “No one should be abused just because they are trying to participate in society.”
A note to the White House working group condemned “gender disinformation” and announced that the administration would “develop programs and policies to address online harassment, abuse and disinformation campaigns targeting women and LGBTQ + people who are public and political figures, government and civic leaders, activists and journalists in the United States and around the world. ”
The note suggests that online harassment has devastating costs for democracy itself by undermining [people’s] the ability to exercise their human rights and participate in democracy, governance and civic life. ”

It goes on to say that “Online abuse and harassment aimed at preventing women from making political decisions about their own lives and communities” undermines the functioning of democracy. “
The Director of the White House Gender Policy Council and the President’s Assistant for National Security will lead “interdepartmental efforts to tackle online harassment and abuse, specifically focused on technology-facilitated gender-based violence, and develop specific recommendations for improving of prevention, response, and protection efforts through programs and policies in the United States and worldwide. “
Although Harris mentioned concerns about white supremacy on the Internet and the protection of abortion confidentiality in her remarks, neither she nor the note mentioned far-left antifa groups, doxing politicians or other dangerous leftist activities online.

Brent Bozel, founder and CEO of the Center for Media Studies, tweeted the Biden administration, warning: “Nothing good can come out of the White House Gender Policy Council, especially when they talk to Big Tech.
Some responded by making direct comparisons between the working group and the Disinformation Management Council.
“There is a new task force for misinformation. This one will be run by @KamalaHarris “, complained the Young Americans for Liberty Twitter account on Twitter. “The biggest provider of ‘misinformation’ is the US government. They are certainly not qualified to control it.”
