Music insiders have said that the 63-year-old Kate earns about £ 250,000 a week from the song – which receives almost one million streams on Spotify every day.

A source said: “Kate is about to bank a seven-figure sum because of its revival.

“She has all the publishing and licensing rights and she wrote it – so almost all the money goes to her.

“Given the power of the song, Kate will easily raise £ 250,000 a week and, if she continues as she is, she will laugh all the way to the bank.

The song only reached №3 in 1985, but should now be №1 for the second week – and broke all records 37 years later.

Kate is now the oldest woman to receive a single №1 in the UK – ahead of Cher, who topped the 53-year-old with Believe in 1998.

Now she also holds the record for the longest difference between single №1 – 44 years since Wuthering Heights in 1978.

This is also the longest time it takes for a single to reach №1, surpassing the 36 years for Wham’s Last Christmas.

In the 80s hit Netflix hit Stranger Things, listening to the song helped the character Max Mayfield, played by Sadie Sink, escape the evil Windows.

Kate said she was so happy that so many young people were “discovering the song for the first time.”

She said: “I have never experienced anything like this before. It’s hard to accept the speed with which this is happening. “
