Kim Jong Un sent a letter to congratulate the Queen on the 70th anniversary of her accession to the throne.

The North Korean leader is the newest and perhaps most unexpected world leader to mark the Platinum Jubilee today.

The exact content of his letter has not yet been revealed.

North Korea’s foreign ministry simply confirmed on its website that Kim had sent a letter “congratulating the Queen and the British people.”

This comes as tensions between North Korea and the West continue to rise as the country’s number of nuclear tests rises.

Just last week, Mr Kim’s regime fired three rockets at sea.

The tests came just hours after Joe Biden left Asia, where he vowed to step up measures to deter the nuclear state.

This marked the 17th round of weapons tests in the country this year.

Mr Kim had earlier promised to strengthen his nuclear force at “maximum speed”.

Negotiations between Washington and Pyongyang have largely stalled since 2019 due to disagreements over easing sanctions in exchange for disarmament.

But relations between the United Kingdom and North Korea are far different.

North Korea has an embassy in London and the United Kingdom has an embassy in Pyongyang, which opened in 2003 and 2001, respectively.

Diplomatic relations between the two countries were established in 2000.

But in recent years, Mr Kim has criticized Britain for backing international sanctions against the country over its nuclear ambitions and human rights.

He also called on the United Kingdom to join a new US-led alliance to help Australia acquire nuclear submarines.
