Police issued a statement after a man was seriously injured in an attack in Bradford.
A 20-year-old man is in critical condition after the incident at the Newton Street Islamic Center in Bradford.
A West Yorkshire police spokesman said: “Officers have made an arrest after a man was seriously injured with a sharp weapon in an incident at the Newton Street Islamic Center in Bradford today (May 2).
“Emergency services were called on the spot at 10.06 am and found a man about 20 years old with serious injuries. He was taken to hospital for treatment and is in critical condition.
“Following an investigation, a man was arrested at a nearby address in connection with the incident and is currently being held by police.
“Employees are not looking for anyone else in connection with what happened.
“Both the victim and the suspect attended separate prayers at the Islamic Center before the attack. The issue is not being treated as an incident of hatred or terrorism at the moment. ”
Chief Superintendent Rob Maccubri of Bradford Police said: “Detectives are conducting a number of investigations into this serious incident today and one man remains in police custody after being arrested in connection with the attack on the victim.
“We are not looking for anyone else in connection with what happened, and local NPT officials are conducting soothing patrols and talking to residents in the local area.
“This is clearly a worrying incident for the victim’s family and the local community, and West Yorkshire Police will continue to provide visible reassurance and support as the investigation progresses.
