During a radio appearance last week, Kyle Rittenhouse made the best impression of a high school athlete who announced his choice of college on National Signing Day – wearing a Texas A&M hat, which he pulled out from under the table.
“I’m going there and it’s going to be great,” said Rittenhouse, who shot dead three people, two of them deadly, during a 2020 racial justice protest in Kenosha, Wisconsin.
But a university official said Sunday that Rittenhouse was not present. “He was not accepted as a student this summer or fall,” Texas A&M spokeswoman Kelly Brown said in an email.
Rittenhouse said he visited College Station in May. “Beautiful campus, amazing people, amazing food,” he said on the show.
He previously took online lessons at Arizona State University and expressed a desire to study on campus. But officials at the university said last year that he was no longer enrolled.
During the Kenosha protest in 2020, Rittenhouse killed Anthony Huber and Joseph Rosenbaum. Gage Groskreutz was wounded in the arm.
Rittenhouse claims he fired in self-defense after each of the men attacked him. Last year, a jury acquitted him of a number of charges, including murder.
