A Labor leader said he would have voted for the strike if he had been a member of the RMT union.
Asked if he supported the railway strikes, which are planned for later this month, Wes Street, the shadow health minister, told the BBC’s Question Time program: “As I said, I would prefer them not to continue.
“To put it this way, if I were a member of RMT and my jobs were at such risk, then I would have voted in favor of the strike and I would have voted to defend my job, my rules and my conditions.
“If I was a government minister at the moment, it’s not my job to be on the picket line, it’s not my job to condemn the unions, it’s my job to solve the problem, to get people around the table to make sure passengers don’t feel uncomfortable. ”
