Lake Okanagan is just five centimeters from reaching the full pool.

At 7:25 a.m. Monday, Environment Canada calculated the lake level at 342,430 meters.

The full pool is 342.48 meters.

In 2021, Lake Okanagan was about 341.88 meters.

Early Monday morning, Environment Canada issued a special meteorological declaration due to prolonged rainfall over parts of BC’s interior.

Rainfall will begin on Monday and continue until Tuesday.

Total precipitation is expected from 20 to 40 millimeters, before the precipitation weakens to periods of light rain on Tuesday afternoon.

“There is some uncertainty about the exact trajectory of the low and this will be a factor influencing the amount of rain in each region,” a statement from Environment Canada said.

The BC River Forecasting Center has issued high-flow advice for parts of the southern interior.

The High Flow Council includes:

  • Okanagan, including Mission Creek and tributaries east of Vernon, Kelowna, Penticton and surrounding areas
  • Border including the West Kettle River, the Kettle River, the Granby River and surrounding tributaries
  • Similkameen River, including Tulameen River and surrounding tributaries

“The river level is expected to rise on Monday and Tuesday in response to rainfall and continued melting snow in higher altitudes.”

“The public is advised to stay away from fast-flowing rivers and potentially unstable river banks during periods of heavy flow. Be prepared and know your dangers. The River Forecasting Center continues to monitor the conditions and will provide updates if the conditions require it, “the River Forecasting Center said in a statement.
