Russian forces say they have taken control of a third of the city of Severodonetsk as they continue their offensive in Ukraine’s Donbass region.
Donbass refers to the two eastern Ukrainian regions of Luhansk and Donetsk – the main strategic, political and economic goal for the Kremlin.
“We can now say that a third of the city is already under our control,” Leonid Pasechnik, head of the Russian-backed Luhansk People’s Republic, told Russia’s state-run TASS news agency.
Pasechnik acknowledged that Russian forces had failed to advance as fast as they had hoped in the key eastern city, with fighting currently under way in the urban area.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has said 32 media workers have been killed since Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24th.
Among them is Frederic Leclerc-Imhoff, a French journalist with BFM TV, who was fatally wounded in the neck while riding in an armored evacuation vehicle that was shelled by Russian forces, Sky News reported.
“A little over a month ago, I gave an interview for this particular TV channel,” Zelenski said in his evening address. “This was my first interview with the French media during a full-scale war.
“My sincere condolences to Frederick’s colleagues and family,” Zelenski said.

Oil prices are rising after the EU agreed to ban about 90% of Russian oil
Crude oil prices rose in Asia hours after EU leaders agreed to ban about 90% of Russian oil by the end of 2022.
The move will immediately affect 75% of Russia’s oil imports, said Charles Michel, president of the European Council.
The ban is part of the European Union’s sixth package of sanctions against Russia since it invaded Ukraine.
“The European Council agrees that the sixth package of sanctions against Russia will cover crude oil as well as oil products supplied by Russia to the Member States, with the temporary exception of crude oil delivered by pipeline,” a statement said on May 31. of the European Council.
This temporary exception covers the remaining Russian oil, which has not yet been banned, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen told a news conference.

A consortium led by Los Angeles Dodgers co-owner Todd Boelli bought the Chelsea football team from Roman Abramovich, the billionaire who was sanctioned by the British government for his ties to Putin after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, for £ 4.25 billion (5, $ 38 billion) deal.

Abramovich put the Chelsea team up for sale on March 2, a week after the invasion and days before the British government added his name to the list of sanctioned Russian oligarchs. Among other things, the sanctions prohibit the Chelsea team from signing new players or offering new contracts.
As the team is already under new ownership, these restrictions will be removed.
