Liz Trus defends Rwanda’s asylum scheme as “completely legal and moral”
Priti Patel said she was disappointed that the first deportation flight to Rwanda would no longer take off, but said legal damage tonight would not prevent her from “doing the right thing”.
The Secretary of State added: “Our legal team is reviewing every decision made on this flight and preparations for the next flight are starting now.
A spokesman for the Rwandan government also said he would not be deterred by successful legal offers on Tuesday.
“Rwanda remains fully committed to this partnership,” said Yolanda Makolo, adding: “Rwanda is ready to accept migrants when they arrive and offer them security and opportunities in our country.”
Their remarks follow a series of successful, eleventh-hour interventions by the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR), in which all migrants traveling to the African country were removed from a plane at Boscombe Down, near Salisbury.
The appeals were heard by a judge outside the working hours of documents, according to the agency, which overturns the decisions of the United Kingdom.
It is also understood that there is currently no way for the interior ministry to appeal the decision.

David Lamy: The ECtHR protects all our rights
Shadow Foreign Secretary David Lamy said it was “serious” to suggest that the European Court of Human Rights should not look at UK policy.
He told BBC Breakfast: “He protects all our rights, our privacy rights, our rights to work, our rights if we are in a rented accommodation with landlords, all sorts of things that affect our whole lives.
“And it is very serious to assume that these courts should not consider this scheme properly.”
