Penny Mordaunt’s claims that she has never supported gender identity have come under fresh scrutiny after leaked government documents suggested she supports watering down the legal process for transitioning.
Documents produced by government officials appear to show she was in favor of scrapping at least one medical requirement for transgender people when she was equalities minister.
Another from February 2020 confirmed that government support for self-identification had ended after she was replaced as minister responsible for the portfolio.
