The Ontario Liberal Party has confirmed that its Chatham-Kent-Leamington candidate has been fired after using gay insults on Facebook eight years ago.
The party said Alec Mazurek had been officially suspended and would not run as a member of the Ontario Liberal Team this election.
Ontario Liberal leader Stephen Del Duca was asked about the case Thursday morning and said he would investigate.
“I think it’s really important for leaders to take decisive action when the behavior of candidates, which is irresponsible, which is reckless, which is not what we stand for, is treated in the most decisive way possible. So I will look at this event immediately after that, and if that is the case, he will no longer be a candidate for us, “Del Duca said.
Shortly afterwards, Ontario Liberals said Mazurek had been fired for his behavior.
The gay insult was published in 2014.

Mazurek is no longer listed on the Ontario Liberal Party’s website as a candidate.
Mazurek is the third Liberal candidate to drop out in recent days over questionable comments. On Wednesday, the party rejected its Parry Sound-Muskoka candidate after it was revealed that he had published a book himself claiming that babies could become gay by “re-breathing” the air they exhale. Liberal candidate in Sault Ste. Marie was fired after media reports that he had participated in online discussions involving people joking about AIDS.
