Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Final in 2022 arrived as Tampa Bay Lightning and Colorado Avalanche prepare to fight for the biggest hockey award. Either Lightning will win its third consecutive championship or Avalanche will lift the Cup for the first time since 2001.
Avalanche advanced to the Stanley Cup final without much resistance so far. In three playoff rounds, Colorado is 12-2 with twice its record. Now Avs must send the consecutive champions.
The lightning has taken a more scenic route to this point. They toppled Maple Leafs in a heated seven-game streak before defeating their rivals in the Florida Panthers. In the Eastern Conference finals, Lightning missed the first two games against the New York Rangers before winning four straight to advance.
