Lisandro Martinez: Two Tier 1 journalists say Man Utd deal virtually done – Man Utd News and Transfer News

Negotiators between Manchester United and Ajax have found the basis of a deal for the transfer of Lisandro Martinez subject to the approval of the clubs’ owners, according to Dutch Level 1 journalist Mike Verwey.

Former United goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar, who is now chief executive of Ajax, was key to the deal.

The journalist tweeted “#Ajax and #MUFC close to agreement for #Martinez after hours of meeting in Amsterdam.

“Transfer fee with maximum bonuses close to 55 million.

“Clubs with homework on payment terms to supervisory board (Ajax) and owners (ManU).”

Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano confirmed the news, saying:

“Long meeting with Ajax, agreement concluded for more than 50 million euros.

“Final talks tomorrow: Manchester United hope to seal deal in 24/48 hours.”

The deal comes after United’s negotiators flew into Amsterdam today for face-to-face talks.

After initially placing an asking price of €50m, the Dutch side appear to have moved the goalposts this week and upped their demand to €60m.

Eventually, after pleading with the player to be allowed to move, a compromise appears to have been reached.

Martinez is predominantly a left-sided centre-back, raising questions about Harry Maguire’s future at United.

However, he can also play as a central defensive midfielder, a position in which United do not have numbers.
