General Hospital – now the biggest winner in the history of the day – was named Outstanding Daily Drama on Friday as the Kelly Clarkson Show won the Outstanding Talk Show Award at the 49th Annual Daily Emmy Awards. The ceremony was broadcast live on the East Coast on CBS.
Danger! won Best Game Show with new presenters Miami Bialik and Ken Jennings, while Michelle Morgan made history by becoming the first black woman to win Best Leading Actress in a Daily Drama for her work on The Young and the Restless.
The personal ceremony at the Civic Auditorium in Pasadena opened with a less subtle reference to the Supreme Court’s ruling on Friday overturning Rowe v. Wade. After host Kevin Fraser mentioned how good his co-host Michelle Turner looked in her blue dress, she replied: “I chose this dress. That was my choice. ” The comment was met with great applause.

Drew Carey later paid tribute to 50 years of The price is correct. And Susan Lucy received a standing ovation after taking the stage to remember her late husband / manager Helmet Huber and present the In Memoriam segment. It included a performance by Michael Bolton, who sang his 1983 hit “How Am I Supposed To Live Without You.”
Susan Rodgers of Days of Our Lives presented the award for achievement to longtime day star John Aniston. The presentation included a video from his daughter Jennifer Aniston, which tells how her father began filming on television in 1962, before joining the Days of Our Lives in 1985. Since then, he has played Victor Kiriakis.
The veteran actor was not present. “We’re like family to him,” said Rodgers, who accepted the daily Emmy Award on behalf of Aniston.
Longtime daytime actor John McCook has finally won his first Emmy for starring in The Bold and the Beautiful. He had special thanks to CBS and how he kept the daily Emmys on air. “It means so much to us,” he said.
Turner ended the show with another nod to the big Friday headlines. “Women’s rights are human rights,” she said.

Daily Emmys recognize outstanding achievements in television programming and crafts in a variety of categories, including daily dramas, talk shows, training programs, hosting, and legal / court programs.
