Day 1 ends with Schwarzell in the lead
Charles Schwarzel closed his first round with a birdie to take the lead with one shot. Schwarzel is a former Masters champion and one of the 17 current or former members of the PGA Tour participating in the event. LIV events have 54 holes, so there are two rounds left.
Hennie Du Plessis shoots with 4 lower and is alone in second place, with one behind.
DAY 1 FULL BOARD
Phil Mickelson and Dustin Johnson were grouped together and shot equally below 69 to overtake Schwarzell by four shots.
“Apart from a few loose drives, I felt like I hit the iron well. The golf course is tough and the conditions are really tough,” Johnson said during the broadcast.

Who is Phchara Khongwatmai?
On the field with 48 people at the opening of LIV Golf there are some players familiar to most golf fans, but many others who probably are not.
One of the last will be the leader of 4 sub-denominations with three holes in the Centurion Club, Phchara Khongwatmai from Thailand. The 23-year-old footballer is number 133 in the world and is a regular on the Asian tour.
In 2013, at the age of 14, he became the youngest winner of a professional tournament when he won the Sing Hua Hin Open at the All Thailand Golf Tour. Three years later, he played in the British Open at the age of 17, missing the cut.
The LIV Golf Invitational Series is sanctioned by the Asian tour. LIV Golf Investments, the company launched last October with the idea of supporting golf around the world, has allocated $ 300 million for the Asian tour for a series of 10 events a year designed to help grow the tour. The Public Investment Fund, an autonomous wealth fund administered by the Saudi government, is the major shareholder in LIV Golf Investments.
Three players from Thailand are on the field, as well as three from Japan.
What the broadcast of LIV looks like and sounds like
As with any new league, there is a lot of curiosity about where and how the LIV Golf will be broadcast.
For the opening outside of London, LIV Golf is broadcast on its own website, YouTube and Facebook. And it looks like … a golf tournament.
The presentation includes a constantly updated ranking on the left side of the screen, with players and the logo of their team. In the upper left corner is the number of holes left, as when starting with a rifle, all players finish at approximately the same time.
American golf fans who complain about shows with too many commercial breaks, keep in mind – this week there are no sponsorship obligations with the new series, and therefore ads. During the broadcast of the first round, there were virtually no features or other segments to take away from golf.
As for the comment, in the main booth is longtime Premier League football cameraman Arlo White, who is English, along with American Jerry Foltz, most recently from the Golf Channel and Hong Kong-born Dom Bullet, the voice of the Asian tour.
Dustin Double Bogeys 7th hole
Not everyone smiles at the Centurion Club. On par-4, 7th hole, Dustin Johnson threw his drive out of bounds on the right and threw his tee in disgust.

He made a double tray on the hole to drop from 1 less to 1 over in the round, tied for 15th in the event.
Johnson co-starred with Phil Mickelson – LIV Golf collected its two biggest names and launched them on the 1st – and Mickelson is also 1st in his first professional golf since Saudi International in early February.
How the team format works
One of the main selling points of LIV Golf is its team of four. With 12 holes left in the round – how LIV keeps track of time given the start of the rifle – the Crushers GC team led by 4 less.
Phchara Khongwatmai of Thailand was 4 fewer, leading the Crushers as well as the entire event.
The team result is calculated with the best two team results for the first two rounds and the three best results in the third and last round.
The first three teams won $ 5 million in prize money, with $ 3 million for the first, $ 1.5 million for the second and $ 500,000 for the third split between the four players. So, in theory, one player can have a bad event, but three good teammates and get a good payday.
So what do they wear?
If you just tune in, you will notice that most players will not look different than in other tournaments. Dustin Johnson and Sergio Garcia, for example, are in their usual themes with the Adidas logo; Garcia with an Adidas hat and Johnson with a hat with the TaylorMade logo.
The LIV Golf teams of the players are represented by cadets who have team names and vest logos.
As for Phil Mickelson, who lost sponsors after comments in February about the “disgusting greed” of the PGA Tour and the Saudi-backed league, he wears a black hat with his own jumping Phil logo and a black cardigan with the Augusta National Golf Logo. club.

Journey to the beginning of the rifle
As anyone who has ever played in a charity golf tournament or a big event at their local club knows, rifle start transport is a controlled chaos. This usually involves an army of golf carts released at once from the clubhouse.
LIV Golf took a step forward by grabbing a fleet of London’s black taxis to transport players across the Centurion Club.
LIV Golf also released a promotional video on Thursday, narrated by Dennis Quaid.
