The A50 east was closed in Derby after a serious collision shortly after 5 a.m. today. There was a queue shortly after the accident from junction 2 A6 (Derby / Alvaston) to junction 1 B6540 Tamworth Road (Long Eaton).
The traffic jam reaches junction three (Swadlincote / Melbourne) and authorities will be concerned if the incident disrupts traffic for the next few hours. Accumulation of traffic early in the morning is inevitable, given that workers will return to work after the weekend.
It is not yet known if there were any casualties in the accident. It is also unknown when the A50 to the east will reopen.
The National Road Information Service Inrix updated at 5:33 this morning today: “A50 east closed, traffic queued due to a serious accident from J2 A6 (derby/Alvaston ) to J1 B6540 Tamworth Road (Long Eaton). Congestion up to J3 ( Suodlinkot/ Melbourne).
“Affects traffic from the city to the M1 J24A (Nottingham South / East Midlands Airport).”
