A main road in Southport has been closed following a motorcycle accident.
Emergency services were called to the Southport coastal road after reports of a motorcycle accident. Photographs taken by ECHO at the scene show a large emergency presence, including an Air Ambulance helicopter.
ECHO understands that the coastal road was closed in both directions after the accident. The INRIX traffic monitor said: “The coastal road is partially blocked, a queue due to an accident between A565 Liverpool Road and Pinfold Lane.”
The Merseyside Traffic Police Department tweeted: “The coastal road between the A565 Formby Bypass and Pinfold Lane, Ainsdale, is currently closed due to a collision. We are not sure how long it will remain closed at this time. Thank you for your patience. “
An ECHO photographer said the incident appeared to have taken place outside the Holiday Bank Willow Bank.
The air ambulance took off shortly after 2:30 p.m. Photos from the scene show a number of ambulances, as well as at least two police cars and a fire station.
