Liverpool’s Spirit of Shankly union has accused UEFA of hypocrisy condemning the greed of Super League clubs while increasing ticket revenues by 38% over the past four years.
Liverpool and Real Madrid each received 19,618 tickets to the final in Paris at £ 50.32, £ 125.79, £ 410.91 and £ 578.63. The two cheapest category tickets – about 15,500 seats per club – were reduced at the request of the semi-finalists after UEFA offered to offer 5,000 free tickets to each finalist. There is no discount for people over 65, young adults (17-21) or adolescents.
The distribution of the finalists amounted to 52.3% of the capacity of the Stade de France on May 28, which was reduced to 75,000. Another 12,000 tickets will be distributed by public vote, and the remaining 23,764 will be provided to “family” and corporate UEFA sponsors.
With tickets sold on resale sites for between £ 3,275 per ticket to £ 15,499 for a hospitable place in a private apartment, Spirit of Shankly has condemned UEFA, accusing it of destroying fans and pleasing sponsors.
In an open letter to the governing body of European football, SOS wrote: “Since 2018, when the LFC last played with Real Madrid in the final, UEFA ticket revenues have increased from 3.06 million euros to 4.22 million euros, which is equal to a 38% increase over four years.
“In opposition to the failed Super League, UEFA President Alexander Cheferin said:” I can’t understand how you can see your fans protesting and you don’t care. You are already full of money, you are not poor, but you want more and more and more. Well, Mr. Cheferin, Liverpool fans are protesting and you don’t seem to care. UEFA is not poor, but you seem to want more. And more.
“Similarly, the changes proposed by UEFA in their club competitions in the future ignore the interests of the fans. Football fans are tired of being robbed. They are tired of watching their team reach the final, but cannot find a ticket to participate. And tired of excessive prices. It’s time for UEFA to recognize the power of fans and the importance of fans over sponsorship. “
Jürgen Klopp said on Friday: “Now that you see ticket prices and all that, the amount of tickets you get … is it right that we only get 20,000, they get 20,000 and there are 75,000? That makes 35,000 what? Where are these tickets? Tickets are really expensive and I can’t be more grateful or grateful for what people do. ”
UEFA asked for comment.
