Liverpool have become known for their shrewd transfer business in recent years, but the way Darwin Nunes was quickly arranged to replace Sadio Mane was nothing short of remarkable.

With only 12 months left of his deal, Manet, one of the Reds’ most important players, has indicated that he is eager to seek relocation after the Anfield hierarchy could not agree on a deal. a new deal to extend his stay on Merseyside.

But instead of shrinking from the prospect of losing one of Jurgen Klopp’s most trusted lieutenants, Liverpool instead pinched one of Europe’s most coveted strikers to fill the void that Manet will leave after continuing his long move to Bayern. Munich is over.

The Reds broke their transfer record to do so, with additions to the Nunes blockbuster deal expected to reduce the overall Uruguayan hotspot package to around £ 85m; really huge fee. But Liverpool are ready to break the bank for Nunes, as his salary claims have reportedly been part of their current pay structure, something that should give Mohamed Salah food for thought.

Like Manet, the Egyptian wizard is also in the final year of his current contract with the Reds. The 29-year-old has insisted he will not leave Anfield this summer, but progress on another deal has stalled due to his huge salary demands, which are reported to be around £ 400,000 a week.

Salah may be the jewel in the crown of Liverpool, but the former Chelsea player should not have illusions that the Reds will not be held for ransom – Manet is the perfect example of this. Salah’s partner in the crime took a similar position and is now leaving the club; something that seemed unthinkable even 12 months ago.

And while Reds icon Jamie Carragher acknowledged that Manet’s departure was “sad”, he stressed that the club needed to “refresh its front line”. He told Sky Sports: “Liverpool under Jurgen Klopp is usually hired properly when they spend big money. The numbers we’re talking about – that’s what they spent on the goalkeeper and Van Dyke and made a huge difference.

“Liverpool now need to renew their front line due to the age of these three front lines, which have been absolutely fantastic for Liverpool over the last four or five years.

“It’s sad to see that it’s falling apart in some way, but it had to end sooner or later, and since Sadio Mane looked like he was going to move on, Liverpool had to do something and he’s the one they identified.”

The fact that Liverpool have managed to provide a high-quality replacement for Manet should not be lost on Salah – if he is under the illusion that he can keep the Reds for ransom because he is irreplaceable at Anfield, then he may have to think again.
