Liz Truss backs plans to buy £ 20m party mansion for diplomat | News

The State Department is considering buying a New York City House for £ 20 million for a top diplomat so that it can offer VIP access to “high-quality entertainment space”.

Foreign Secretary Liz Truss is said to be “very supportive” of the plan to buy a 9,600-square-foot property, described by real estate agents as “a magnificent and iconic residence for the new gilded era.”

The 19th-century house is owned by Guy Wildenstein, a senior figure in the fine arts business who has been embroiled in legal turmoil in France over an alleged € 550 million tax fraud.
