LOS ANGELES (KABC) – Police in Los Angeles shot and wounded a man they say shot at them Friday morning.
Around 9:30 a.m., officers responded in the area of La Brea and Beverly Boulevard after receiving a call from a man pointing a gun at construction workers. It is located right on the border of Hancock Park and Fairfax County.
When they arrived, the alleged gunman fired at officers, prompting them to return fire, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
Police said the suspect had fled, but the man was found and detained near Beverly Boulevard and Detroit Street shortly afterwards.
Police said the suspect was wounded in the shooting and was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Firearms were found at the scene.
No police officers appear to have been injured in the shooting.
This event shook the residents of this neighborhood.
Tyra Spencer told Eyewitness News that the shooting highlighted her fears about her safety, living in Hancock Park, considered one of the best neighborhoods in LA.
“I make sure I’m in the house before it gets dark. I stay in my neighborhood blocks. I don’t even walk around La Brea that much because I don’t feel safe anymore,” Spencer said.
Traffic in the La Brea Ave area between Beverly Boulevard and Oakwood Avenue is expected to be affected for several hours due to an investigation.
