In 1925, Colonel Percy Fawcett stocked up on machetes, rifles, ukuleles, and British imperial tongs and headed for the unexplored Amazon to find the lost city of Z. Somewhere hidden in what he called “the last great void in the world.” , this great researcher was convinced that there lay a fallen civilization.
We don’t know if he found it: he never came back.
Now, however, the hidden cracks in Fawcett’s empty space have been illuminated with modern technology: revealing the details of a huge city in the jungles on the edge of the Amazon, much of which has been obscured by vegetation for centuries.
Using a technology called a leader that can see through the canopy, researchers have explored territory in modern-day Bolivia.
