Love Island has announced that Jacques O’Neill has left the show.
A statement from ITV confirmed the news, confirming that his reasons for leaving the series will be revealed in Tuesday’s (July 12) episode.
“Jacques has made the decision to leave the villa,” the statement said. “He will explain his reasons to the islanders during tonight’s episode. We fully support his decision and look forward to seeing what’s next for Jacques.”
ITV
Jacques has had a controversial run in the villa. He was originally linked to Paige Thorne until he turned to Casa Amor.
After befriending new girl Molly Salmon, he also shared a few kisses with Shyanne Kerr and hinted that he chose her at the reunion. But when the moment came, he decided to stay with Paige and tried to explain his behavior to her.
In a tearful speech, he told her: “If you don’t want me, if you don’t want to take things further, if you don’t want to hear an apology, that’s sweet.”

He later tried to win her back, explaining, “I don’t want to lose you and it’s as simple as that, and I’m sorry I hurt you.
“It made me realize that I only want you… From now on, it’s just you and that’s it.”
His actions received backlash from viewers, with his family stepping in and asking people to be kind.
“Sometimes people living with ADHD can behave in ways that seem rude or disrespectful,” his brother wrote on Instagram.
ITV
“Jacques was diagnosed with ADHD when he was 9 years old. This is by no means a get out of his actions, but it is to show that he can fundamentally struggle with his emotions at times.
“He is an amazing man who I am proud to call my friend/little brother.
“All the hate thrown at Jacques doesn’t go directly to him… It goes to his loved ones who have always supported him, not just while he was on Love Island.
“Love Island, although real, is still a show where the producers are in control and we see 45 minutes of 1440 in 24 hours.”
Love Island airs on ITV2 and is available via Catch Up on ITV Hub and Britbox.
